Kitchen and Craft

Along with the other things I get up to, I love to cook, bake, garden and create fibre artworks.  Here’s a collection of projects and recipes that I love.

Family Recipes

I’m an avid baker (despite not being all that fond of sweets), and am starting to venture more and more into savoury territory, which I prefer.  Most of the recipes I post here will be those that I’ve collected and often make for my family (or that they make for me); I make no claim to their copyright, as they were passed to me uncredited (for the most part).  We often make alterations that make them our own.

Fibre Arts Projects

Family quilts, embroidery, knitting and sewing - most of these projects end up taking me years to complete, but I love doing them.  My family has always been involved in textile arts, and from a young age I would occasionally begin projects, only to be distracted by a book, the project abandoned.  In university I took a summer job at my beloved Lang Pioneer Village, and there I passed the time by teaching myself embroidery (as well as how to bake on an open hearth, a cast-iron stove, and a failed experiment with a wood-fired bake oven).  Since then we’ve all step up our textile work, and have several quilts on the go as well as other projects.

The Garden of Earthly Delights

I wouldn’t describe myself as a terrific gardener - just as things are really getting interesting, I’m often too busy with the festivals to really pay them any mind, so they run wild from July-September.  That being said, we do still manage to get some decent produce and some lovely flowers and herbs from our garden.
